ARTIST BIO

Robin started painting early with her grandmother, Ruth

Matlock, who is listed in the "Dictionary of Texas Artists, 1880-1945".

Robin received her B.A. in art history from the University of Arizona in 1975 and began working in art galleries and art centers in the Scottsdale, Arizona area. From that time until a few years ago, her painting was done only in workshops and for private commissions. In 1998 she began to study at the Southwest school of Arts and Crafts in San Antonio, Texas with Alberto Mijangos, and then joined his studio group where she is still going today.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Water is a recurrent and significant theme throughout Robin’s

paintings. It becomes even more meaningful as the paintings are viewed as a group. Women are represented as receptors, carriers, animators, protectors and nourishers of life...the rare and ethereal quality of the paintings included in the series creates a mood filled with mystery and charm. The viewer who spends the time to view each painting deeply may feel as though a puzzle had been presented but not revealed directly.

The series is cloaked in mystery and has a tranquil and calming effect. Robin’s work is inspired by the human condition revealed by a moment frozen in time. She hopes the viewer will respond with their own story about the mystery within the painting.
